Braintree 2’s won the toss and elected to bat first on a patchy pitch at Worlingworth and soon found themselves in trouble at 4-2 following the early loss of Arindam Gangopaghyay & Joe Osborne. Jerry Hollingsworth & Ian Johnston then took the attack to the Worlingworth opening bowlers with the former driving numerous boundaries “on the up” whilst Johnston carved several fours when any width was offered. The pair soon brought up their 50 partnership but once the pace was taken off the ball, Johnston fell to Harding when attempting another expansive drive and was caught at mid off. With spin now operating at both ends, Hollingsworth missed a short delivery from Hulbert and was out LBW for 41. Only a further attacking display from Lee Fullgrabe (30) offered any resistance as Braintree subsided to 120 all out with their final 5 wickets falling for only 10 runs. On reflection with the state of the pitch, Braintree would feel they were 40 runs short of a competitive target

If Braintree were going to have any chance, then their opening attack of Macauley Wright and skipper Andrew Sherry were going to need to make early inroads. And it was the left arm pace of Wright who made the early impact when opener Kiernan got in no position to pull a short fast delivery and only succeeded in skying the ball in the air to be caught by wicket keeper Jerry Holingsworth. One wicket soon became two as Antonio was then again caught by Hollingsworth with a rising catch off the bowling of Sherry for a duck. Sam Boynton & Harry Dyer then steadied the innings for the home team, taking the score past 50 without further loss before Boynton became Waights second wicket with a comfortable catch taken by Joe Osbourne in the covers. Shaun Gould then replaced Sherry, but despite opening with three successive maidens, Braintree needed further quick wickets and although Gould bowled Dyer for 26, only a further 25 runs were required for victory. With Bensly offering stubborn resistance from one end, Calley Foyster dismissed Payne for 19 with a perfect leg spinners delivery with victory for the home side almost assured and which was reached without further loss in the 29th over. The highlight of the Braintree bowling was a fine spell from Macauley Wright who took 2-39 from 12 often hostile overs
