A wicket for Josh Kay

Lucas Hale

Jake Lee

Braintree's Mini Dolphins recovered from their defeat earlier in the week to take top spot in the league after a convincing win against Sudbury.

Having lost the toss again and been asked to bat Braintree were looking to post a total to defend after a low total Monday and the ever reliable Will Sherry and Joe Chaplin delivered a great start. Sherry set the tone with a 4 from the first delivery and, despite a run out at the start of the second over, the pair put on 18 in the first set of four overs.

The next set of 4 saw Lewis Day and Lucas Hale really put the Subdury bowlers to the sword as they scored and impressive 34 runs without losing a wicket, Hale hitting 4 boundaries in his 20. At the half way stage Braintree had reached 252 and were well in control.

George Martin and Harry Macklin came in for the third set and continued to be positive, hitting 19 runs with the loss of just 1 wicket, with both boys showing great tenacity in the face of some good bowling from the opposition. Jake Lee and Josh Kay took on the final set and despite losing a couple of wickets to good return catches the pair still added 11 runs to the total and took the Mini Dolphins to a final score of 277 (97-4).

The Sudbury openers came out swinging and enjoyed the extra pace of Josh Kay and Joe Chaplin but it wasn't long before the former got into the wickets as he clean bowled the Sudbury opener with the first ball of the 3rd over. Chaplin then followed suit in his 2nd over and the first 4 were restricted to 20 having been at 19 after 2 overs.

Lucas Hale and George Martin delivered the 2nd set and with Martin taking a wicket and Hale manufacturing a run out they conceded just 9 runs to leave Sudbury in trouble at 229 after 8

It was the next set that sealed the win though as Harry Mackin and Lewis day tok 3 wickets for just 8 runs to reduce their opponents to 222 with some excellent, tight bowling. Day returning 2-3 from his 2 overs while Macklin went for just 5 and took 1 wicket.

Will Sherry, George Martin and Josh Kay finished things up for Braintree with Sherry getting amongst the wickets sealing another great win for the boys!
