Braintree U11's

Braintree's U11s made it 3 wins in 3 with another great display at West Bergholt in a 10 aside contest.
On a fine, bright day Braintree batted first and the prolific opening pair of Will Sherry and Joe Chaplin once again gave the Mini Dolphins a great start in the first 4 overs putting on 35 runs with the loss of just 1 wicket giving a net score of 30. Both of these young batsmen playing some exquisite drives and taking advantage of the small boundaries.

As always in terriers cricket the key is to keep wickets intact while ticking over the scoreboard and the 2nd pairing of Zach Peacock and Josh Kay did exactly that with some impressive running between the wickets as they accumulated their runs in singles.

The next 2 pairings of Lucas Hale & Lewis Kay and Aaron Poulter & Reuben Peacock approached the game in the same way and by losing just 3 wickets ensured that, with 4 overs to go the score was 261 and the bots were in a great position.

A partnership of 15 between Luke Huckson and Jake Lee, with no wickets lost, meant Braintree finished on 276 which, in a 20 over game, would be considered about par.

It wasn't long before Braintree's bowlers would get a grip on the game and Josh Kay, along with skipper Sherry, allowed the Bergholt openers just 10 runs in the first 4 overs. With wickets at a premium it was the fielding of the Mini dolphins that really stood out with some great stops, excellent throwing and intelligent backing up that kept the score under control right throughout the innings. Joe Chaplin and Lucas Hale both produced superb direct hits to pick up run outs and as the final 4 overs arrived Bergholt needed 22 to win and by conceding just 1 wide in those 4 overs Hale, Sherry and Josh Kay saw the team home.

Another great win for a team that is growing in confidence with every game and has an amazing team spirit! Well done lads
