1st XI v Frinton-on-Sea (A)
Braintree skipper Chris Hinks won the toss and decided to bat on a glorious summer's day.
Braintree CC set a formidable total of 294 runs in 44.2 overs. Key contributions came from William Jackson and Matt Renvoize, both scoring 47 runs. Jackson's innings involved 5 huge 6s and no fours whilst Renvoize batted with control and swept the ball very well. Chris Leech added a patient 44, while Louis Cant and Matt Childs chipped in with 38 and 25 respectively. The whole batting lineup contributed and put nearly 300 on the board without anyone passing 50.
After tea Braintree set about taking the 10 wickets needed for maximum points.
Josh Newman took the new ball for the first time in 4 years and bowled with good pace and good control. Unfortunately, his effort went unrewarded due to a lack of intent from both Batsman.
Daniel King bowled well and took the 1st wicket for Braintree but again a lack of intent from the batsman meant a lack of chances.
Frinton On Sea CC managed 207/8 in 45 overs and never looked like chasing the score that was set by Braintree. Lachlan Oddie led the scoring with a steady 54, supported by Farkhan Chaudhary's 47. Despite solid efforts, the Braintree bowlers, particularly Chris Leech with 3 wickets, stifled the chase effectively. William Farrance's late 32 pushed Frinton beyond 200 and ensured they got their maximum bonus points and leading to Braintree's 87-run victory.
This match highlighted Braintree's batting depth and effective bowling attack, securing a significant win in the league and a welcome return to winning ways to move 18 points clear at the top of the table.
