On matchday 7 Braintree welcomed Woolpit to St Peters Fortress and in the absence of regular skipper Chris Hinks, Josh Newman won the toss and elected to bat first.

Chris Leech returned to the top of the batting order in the absence of Hinks on what turned out to be a slow and low deck, to be expected with the poor weather the ground had seen over the first month or so of the season.

His stay at the crease was, however, short lived as he was caught off a leading edge by Stuart Lilley for just 5 in the second over of the game.

Dan Chalk was next to the centre and was very watchful whilst Matt Renvoize set about attacking both opening bowlers but having built partnership of 64, Renvoize skied a pull shot into the grateful hands of Harry Tilbrook for 34, giving Ethan Colmer his second wicket.

Chris Walker made his way to the middle and got off to a flier, driving and pulling exceptionally whilst Chalk continued to graft and build a strong base for the league leaders. At 62 the partnership was broken when Walker was caught behind by Tim Huffer for 37 off 34 balls with the score on 131.

Chalk was joined by the stand in skipper briefly before he bowled by Daniel Davison and trudging back to changing rooms having scored just 1.

Dan Chalk notched up another 50 for the club, this one a lot more patient than his usual style. He was eventually dismissed for 68 off 94 balls.

Will Jackson set about pushing the score along and made another valuable contribution to continue his fine form this season. Scoring 41 off 40 balls and seeing The Dolphins almost to 200 on what was proving a tricky wicket to bat on.

The wickets of Bryn Powell and Robbie Spalding got Woolpit excited as they knew Bryn and Robbie could really take the game away from them in the final few overs. Braintree eventually being bowled out for a somewhat low score of 230.

Spalding and Josh Paget took the new ball and got Braintree off to the ideal start, both picking up an early wicket each as Lilley and Colmer departed without scoring

The third wicket fell when Will Jackson took an incredible one handed diving catch off of Spalding to put Braintree firmly in control as Conor Berry had to go for 3 and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals from there, only John Turner putting up any real resistance to the Braintree attack.

Dan King, stepping up from the 2s, took 2 crucial wickets to continue his fine form with the ball this season as he trapped both Ben Thomas (0) and Sam Newton (6) in front.

Chris Walker was having yet another fantastic day out dismissed Turner for 49, another LBW, as well as clearing up the tail and finishing with 4 wickets.

Braintree eventually wrapped up an excellent win when Matt Renvoize took a simple stumping off the bowling of Walker to seal a 130-run win and take the full 20 points on offer.

Another impressive performance by the league leaders as they maintained their 23 point lead at the top of the Division, and still with a game in hand over 2nd placed Felixstowe who had a comfortable win at home to Copford
