Theo Sherry once again impressed with the ball as he took 3-40 but Boxted got over the line with 7 balls spare

This week the 2nd XI hosted Boxted at St. Peter's Road, with the away team captain winning the toss and electing to field, after a flurry of downpours led to a delayed start and a bowl first climate. Nick Lockhart and Geoff Eveling opened the batting this week, and after a slow start and tight bowling from the visitors' openers, Braintree were on 12 for no loss after 8 overs. Lockhart then hit the accelerator striking 4 quick boundaries before finding Dell at Slip off the bowling of Jones for 18. Lee Fullgrabe came out to the middle and, along with the steady going Eveling, began to set Braintree a solid foundation. However, after hitting 9 fours on his way to a good 40, Fullgrabe edged through to keeper Evans to give Thotapelli a 'w' in the scorebook. The following ball, the first of the next over, Eveling was also given out after he was adjudged to have nicked off, moving the dolphins from 92-1 to 92-3 in quick succession. Jeremy Hollingsworth and Guy Walton looked to rebuild for the home team, getting to 130-3 before Hollingsworth played one back to the bowler for 20 and Walton was bowled for 29 leaving Braintree 151-5 and starting a collapse of 5 wickets for 20 runs. Theo Sherry and Joel Ainsley- numbers 10 and 11 respectively- both finished not out, getting Braintree to 183 off their 45 overs.

After tea, Braintree looked to start strong with the ball and take wickets in order to prevent Boxted from capitalising on a below par score. Youngsters Sherry and Callum Lazarus opened, and they both claimed an opener each, leaving Boxted 38 for 2. RobEvans caught by Fullgrabe for 13 and Radley clean bowled by Lazarus for 15.
Ainsley and Eveling then came on as first and second change, with the former bowling very well considering it was his first home game back in 11 months, and the latter claiming the next two wickets for Braintree in the same over, bowling Sam Evans for 2 and getting Thota plumb LBW without scoring, reducing Boxted to 63-4. However, arguably the match winning partnership was then formed between the set batter Paul Tongue and Boxted number 6 Michael Dell, taking the visitors to 144-4 before opener Sherry was brought back on to break the partnership, which he did, bowling Dell for 26. Sherry also took the wicket of Tongue, having him caught in the deep by Osborne for a match high of 66 . Calley Foyster also took a wicket with her leg spin, Thotapalli skying one in the air for keeper Hollingsworth to claim. Despite being 7 down, Boxted still decided to play their shots, with Steve Evans and Will Cosham both striking over 135 to take them home with 7 balls to spare.

Despite falling short for the first time this season, the Second XI still remain top of Division 7, with a trip to West Bergholt on the 22nd to keep control of their first place.
