Braintree returned home looking to avenge defeat by opponents West Bergholt a week ago and with weather around Lucas Hale asked them to bat having won the toss.
It looked to be a great decision as he himself quickly removed both Allen (4) and Wilkie (1) to leave 13-2. That soon became 26-4 as Corbyn MacLeod got into the act as he clean bowled Beckwith-Cole for 6 before enticing the dangerous Josh Christie, who has scored 50 the week before, to drive uppishly into the covers where Hale took an excellent low catch. Henry Eaton and Adam Christy-Jeyathas then steadied the ship for the visitors before Will Sherry bowled the former for 14. Braintree continued to impress in the field as Corbyn MacLeod took an excellent catch on the boundary to remove Jeyathas and Henry Butler did likewise to end Bradshaw's aggressive knock for 13, both off of the bowling of Bertie Burnside. Some good running pushed Bergholt up to 98 before they took on Will Stacey at cover who got the ball in quickly to Jake Lee to run out John Rockall for 4. Lucas Hale bowled the final over and picked up his 3rd wicket as he retuned excellent figures of 3-6 from 3 overs as Braintree were given 100 exactly to chase.

That chase could not have got off to a worse start as a nervous looking top order were blown away as Braintree slumped to 18-7 inside 8 overs. However, Jake Lee was not about to give up without a fight and, alongside Bertie Burnside, they set about building a platform to take the game into the later stages. Lee played superbly with some glorious drivers and struck 3 boundaries with his favourite pull shot, quietening down the opposition's lively fielders in the process as they started to wonder if they could get something from the game after all. Sadly it wasn't to be as Lee was eventually bowled for a career best 23 but he and Burnside, who remained not out on 5, had shown some fight and got Braintree to within 28 of an incredible comeback.
